La obesidad es una enfermedad

Resumen


La obesidad es una enfermedad crónica, pandémica y multifactorial que se caracteriza por procesos fisiopatológicos que resultan en aumento del tejido adiposo disfuncional, lo que la asocia con múltiples comorbilidades y aumento de la mortalidad. Tiene, además, la característica fundamental de ser socialmente estigmatizante. En este sentido, es prioritaria la educación de la comunidad para mejorar la comprensión pública de la obesidad como enfermedad crónica y los riesgos del estigma sobre esta. La comunidad científica la considera como una enfermedad, es por ello que su reconocimiento representa una demanda sanitaria.
